Michel Singher, Coordinator of Opera had an early start as teenage recital accompanist to his father, baritone Martial Singher. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in History and Literature from Harvard and a Master’s in conducting from Indiana University, Michel Singher began professional life as a coach at the Hamburg State Opera, apprenticing to such conductors as Charles Mackerras and Georg Solti for four years, covering a repertoire of several dozen operas.
Mr. Singher has conducted several hundred performances in European opera houses in an extensive repertoire that ranged from Mozart over Wagner to Henze. In his late thirties, he returned to America to head the orchestral and opera programs at the University of Washington and the Oberlin Conservatory. In recent years, he has conducted for the Anchorage Opera, Arizona Opera, Greater Buffalo Opera, Opera Colorado, the Music Academy of the West, Opera San José, Rimrock Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and West Bay Opera.
Mr. Singher has been cover conductor for two productions of San Francisco Opera.
