Dr. Brian Belet

Dr. Brian Belet is Music Systems & Theory Area Coordinator and Professor of Music at San José State University.
Dr. Belet earned the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1990, with an emphasis on algorithmic composition and software synthesis, and with a dissertation on the music of James Tenney. His compositions, for acoustic and electro-acoustic media, have been performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Asia (including several ICMC, SEAMUS, and SCI conferences), and are recorded on the Centaur, Capstone, IMG Media, Frog Peak Music, and University of Illinois CD labels. Prior to joining the SJSU faculty in 1994, Dr. Belet held faculty positions at Clark University (Massachusetts, 1990-94), Black Hills State University (South Dakota, 1987-89), and Arizona State University (1985-86).
His research articles are published in Contemporary Music Review, Journal SEAMUS, Organised Sound, Perspectives of New Music, and Proceedings of the International Computer Music Conference.
He is a member of the Society of Composers, Inc., the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, Electronic Music Foundation, and the International Computer Music Association. His music is licensed through BMI.
Dr. Belet has received awards and grants from American Composers Forum, SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States), the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, Arts Midwest/Meet the Composer, Arizona Composers Forum, Arizona State University, and the South Dakota Music Teachers Association.
