Welcome to the Fall 2009 semester
There will be a mandatory meeting of all music majors on Thursday, August 27 at 12:30 in the Concert Hall. During this meeting new School guidelines and policies will be reviewed for both new and continuing students. Please mark this important date on your calendar.

Systems (Theory) Placement Examination
TRANSFER STUDENTS: All transfer music majors must take the Systems Placement Examination on Friday, August 21 at 1 p.m. in Music Room 250.
NEW FRESHMEN: The Systems Placement Examination will be administered during the first class meeting of Music 1A. Failure to take the exam will result in automatic placement in Music Fundamentals (Music 9).

Applied Audition
All entering Music Majors must audition for admission and placement into their applied music lesson. These will take place on Thursday, August 20 at 10 a.m.

Ensemble Auditions:
All Music Majors are required to be in a major performing ensemble each semester.
WOODWINDS, BRASS, PERCUSSION:
Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band is the appropriate major performing ensemble. Sign-up for an audition time on Thursday, August 20 outside the School of Music Office (Music 180).
The Orchestra conductor and Director of the School of Music & Dance will make Orchestra wind and percussion assignments in consultation with the appropriate applied instructors.
STRINGS:
Orchestra is the appropriate performing ensemble. Sign-up for an audition time posted outside of Dr. Averett’s office (Music 253).
VOCAL MAJORS:
Concert Choir is the appropriate major performing ensemble. Sign-up for auditions at the Choral Office. Consult Dr. Quist (Music 262).
JAZZ STUDIES:
Consult Dr. Lington (Music109) for audition and placement into the appropriate ensemble.
PIANO STUDENTS:
Consult Dr. Mok (Room 112) for appropriate major ensemble assignment.
Piano Proficiency:
For those students with a piano background who feel they are capable of passing the piano proficiency exam prior to enrolling in the class, the exam will be administered on Thursday, August 20 at 12:00 in Room 160.
